Our grandmother’s fathers and grandfathers did not have the same roads we enjoy. Nor did they experience the same types of vehicles. The energy and determination their lives required to enable themselves daily safety and nourishment is difficult to understand in comparison to our life today. Chores like making butter, using the toilet and taking a hot bath were much more challenging tasks back then. The paths were barely trails. The hills were steep. The valleys were low. Everyday life required determination and persistence.
A terrible storm came upon them. Individual and nuclear family issues became secondary. Sacrificing themselves for the greater good was their united vision. Giving to the world was their mission. Community marching in step to protect the roots of the many family trees in their forest. Together they blazed trails through the dark night. Many buried on the way. Driven by their common conviction to clear the storm, they blazed trails to the high road and welcomed the bright light to shine back on the future.
Our future.
Honor past trailblazers. Their conviction and sacrifices have allowed the light to shine on our safe roads and green forests. Allow their spirit to continue through your ride along the road.
Respect. Give. Shine.
