It is a generally accepted belief that the wheel was invented about nine and a half millinia ago. Before this invention, life on the ground was relatively limited, if not static. Based on the circle, the invention of the wheel allowed the ease of movement.
Travel. Change. Independence.
It is assumed that the early wheel was simply a solid chuck of a circle, with a center hole. A chunk of stone or slice of wood could have been the materials used for the first wheels. As the development of the wheel progressed, the use of spokes replaced a monolithic support. The materials developed with the use of wood spokes and then various metal spokes. The circumference developed with rubber and then air-filled rubber. Luckily, many people took no heed in the phrase, “Do not reinvent the wheel”.
The circle has no beginning and no end, but has a clearly defined center. The spokes work together to provide the strength required, while allowing flexibility to allow adjustments and simultaneously maintaining the essence of the circle. The rubber allows a smooth ride while providing the friction required for safety.
Be thankful for wheels. They allow us to move forward and take the high roads.
I am thankful for:
- The independence that allows us to hold our personal ideals strongly centered, like the circular slab of stone.
- The strong cooperating connections in society, family, and personal relationships that provide the strength and flexibility to hold those ideals together, like the spokes of the wheel.
- The love and giving that provides the comfort and soothes the ride over even the bumpy roads, like the rubber on the wheels.
- The circle of the wheel, that allows the cycles of life to continue through future generations of positive development.
Please continue to reinvent the wheel.
The ride will continue to improve.
